Debbie Gibson’s Electric Youth

Recording Workshop

February 24 & 25

Singing in an audition setting or a theatrical setting is much different than singing behind a microphone in a professional recording studio. There are subtleties and specific nuances to be discovered which is unique to each vocalist. It is key when pursuing a career in Pop Music to have a distinguishing quality that is instantly identifiable. If anyone knows about the techniques required for longevity in the entertainment business, it’s Debbie Gibson!

One of Debbie’s passions is mentoring young, up and coming singers and songwriters. She has produced many workshops around the country and is excited to bring this once in a lifetime “real world” recording experience to Long Island’s North Shore – the place that helped nurture her creativity and artistry in her youth!

Spaces are limited and young singers (ages 9-19) should email a YouTube video of any length either acapella (without musical accompaniment) or singing to a karaoke/background track of their choice. Before singing, please state name, age and reason for wanting to attend this workshop so our team can get a sense of how passionate you are about music. This counts more than skill level. Deadline for email submission is February 15.

We will divide the talent selected into two groups based mainly on age but some exceptions will apply for more musically advanced singers. The workshop will be spread out over two days with each group (to be assigned) working on one of the two days, Friday 2/24 or Saturday 2/25. All singers are invited to attend both days, if they would like to observe the other students at work! Sessions will be from 9:30am – 2:30pm with registration beginning at 9am.

Once chosen, singers should come prepared to the workshop with a Karaoke track of their favorite song. You will email the track in advance of the workshop. Song should be “age appropriate” and be something the young singer could actually see themselves recording, if they were to get the opportunity to do so. It should contain lyrics they can embrace and make their own based on their own life experience.

Students will be sent a fully mixed recording of their work no later than one week after the workshop. You are free to use this track to post online or as a “demo” to submit for auditions or any other professional opportunity you see fit.

Parents will be invited into the studio for 30 minutes before the workshop to register, see the setting, and ask any questions they may have.

Total fee for the 5-hour workshop is $500 per singer. Housing, transportation and lunches are not included. Once accepted, a $250 deposit is required via PayPal, credit or debit card to officially reserve spot. No refunds once deposit is made. Final payment is due by February 23. Attending the second day is complimentary.

Debbie and her #TeamElectricYouth are very much looking forward to working with you all, and mentoring the stars of tomorrow!
