Blog: Hello from Manila!

Hey everyone!

I’m on a short break from shooting at a dump site in Manila. I know we all see this setting on TV but, until you’re actually here you can not fathom that people live in these conditions.

To see little children – not in school, not playing with toys – but, scavenging for food and for scraps of metal and plastic to sell to the recyclers for a matter of pennies after a full day’s work….wow.

You will see so much more about this when the infomercial airs in January and I will continue to write and send pix in the coming days.

These are some of the happy faces….just happy we are here to help. I’m filled with admiration

X Deb

  • ME TOO.DEBORAH , ARE YOU IN PAYATAS OR IN SMOKEY MONTAINS DUMP SITE.
SOME FILIPINO PEOPLE ARE SO LUCKY TO SEE YOU THERE IN MANILA .HOPE ME TOO….

  • After singapore, you went there to do that humbling act…such a really good lady….i shouldve followed you there after the retrolicious concert! Salamat!

  • I feel that no child should do with out…..BUT it also annoys me and plain and simple pisses me off that so many celebrities (and no offense to Deborah) are always worried about the children of other countries. There are children in America who go days with out eating and live in a level of poverty that isn’t as bad as you see with other countries but is bad enough. Why is it you never see celebrities campaigning for the children in their own country? It makes me sad as an American that people don’t really pay attention to the issues in their own country. Why is it we are always quick to help everyone else but our own?

  • Kudos to you for the humanitarian stuff that you do. Stay safe. =)

  • I guess it comes down to the fact that people are people everywhere and poverty is poverty everywhere, too. God only knows that there are A LOT of people experiencing hardship here in the U.S. with the New Great Depression, but at least our country (still) has social services, homeless shelters, etc. Many countries do not have ANY sort of safety nets for those in need. Celebrities entertain us by profession, but at least the cameras follow them to the not-so-glamourous places that are not part of their job description and shed light on complete darkness; I don’t think many of us would even dare to go to some of these places at all. Gandhi’s words are my favorite: “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
