More: You were once a teen sensation and graced the covers of many magazines. Do you hope that doing this program will springboard your career and get you back to that level of popularity?
DG: What really tugged at my heart was the charity aspect of this series. For me, if I am going to get up every day at 4 a.m., it has to be about something more. Yes, this is a great opportunity to get yourself out there and talk about what you are doing now. It takes a pop culture moment like this to shine a light on what I’m doing. But no, that wasn’t the reason I signed on. If you start thinking from the outside in, you are in trouble. You have to do what feels authentic to you, and if there’s a positive result that’s meant to follow, then that is great.
