You sound incredible and look amazing. As a vocalist and performer, you are a true inspiration.
The lyrics overall are good. Not your best ever, but sincerity is your strength and it shines here. You avoided cliche and I was touched. Not every line is gold, but I think you successfully overcame most of your lyrical bad habits. I don’t mean to offend you when I say some of your lyrics over the years have been quite bad (Reverse Psychology chorus, for example), but clearly you have improved. Again, stick to sincere emotions and self-observation – that’s where you really shine.
For example, as simple as it is, “Suddenly I see you there and everything’s OK. Don’t know why I feel this way.” is incredibly powerful and honest. Everyone at any age can relate to that. Try to remember that loves makes us all feel like we are 15 again.
The music…well, it’s very good for this genre. But I really think slow ballads are not your greatest strength. I think your greatest strength has always been mid-tempo/power ballads. “Between the Lines” Live in KC is one of your most incredible songs ever (the album track is a bit clunky in comparison). “Foolish Beat” may be slow in tempo, but it is musically powerful and forceful. “No More Rhyme” was slow but had plenty of energy. “Sure” wasn’t quite as successful, but you were on the right track. “Mood Swings” was also a great achievement except for some questionable lyrics.
You have the ability to do ballads that rock. I don’t mean pure dance songs like Shake Your Love, Stayin Together, or EY, nor the less energetic tunes like So Close To Forever, One Hand One Heart, or I Love You. It’s the more in-between songs like Who Loves Ya Baby, Helplessly In Love, Anything Is Possible (musically), Only In My Dreams, Out of the Blue, Over The Wall, Leave Them Home My Dreams, and many more. We can dance to these songs, and I know many were successful in clubs, but they are not “dance songs”. I think you should do more songs with the gold old E, C#m, A, B progression (in whatever key suits you best). Yeah it’s staple of 50’s music, but you rock it.

James, I think you should know (in case you would like to revise your comments above) that the new album is of Deb re-recording Japanese hit singles that were originally in Japanese and that she is now singing in English. The album is currently slated to only be released in Japan (they are still trying to hammer out clearances and release it to the US market). So the lyrics that you are commenting on were not only not written by Deb, but were translated from Japanese to English.
Congratulations Deb. Beautiful rendition of this japanese-translated song. You made it your own. Absolutely beautiful. Goodluck and we’re wishing you all the success of this new album.
Count me amoung the doubters when I heard about this project. I also thought that the songs would be in Japanese. However after finding out the Details about the CD. I became interested, Then October 20th came and the video was posted here for the song “I Love You”.It has been nearly 9 years since we have had a Full CD of music from Deborah. Well it was definitly worth the wait. Just an amazing voice on this song. Deborah your voice seems to get better with age. The song “I love you” is just beautiful. Then their is the other video on Youtube with the clips from all the tracks on the CD and they sound great. Keep up the great work I can’t wait to get the CD in the mail in a couple of weeks. I am sure the songs in full length will sound even better. I also love the cover of the CD. Hearing this amazing song and samples of the other songs makes me glad I have continuted to be a loya fan. With this CD we have been rewareded with that amazing voice.
